Guy’s Jackets: Ward Off Cold With Kenneth Cole and Noll Surfboards
December brings winter crispness to the air, prompting us to layer up. Though the Bay Area has been warm and sunny during the day, in the evenings we've been happy to cozy into the men's Noll Sunrise Sherpa Hood. We made sure to pack it in an accessible box as our main office moved to NYC, where it's now protecting us against the constant chill. In New York we also needed an extra layer that dresses up well, so we tried out the men's Kenneth Cole's Moleskin Coat.
Our Noll Sherpa is in army green, with the off-white sherpa lining. We expect a $68 hoodie to be warm and extremely comfortable. The sunrise sherpa does not disappoint. You pick it up and the fabric feels nice- ready to warm you up after getting chilled outdoors, soft for cuddling on a couch. It also stands up well to a beating- we've been wearing it around hoisting stuff into boxes, and it's survived with flying colors. Noll is a surf supplier, so it makes sense they create cozy hoodies built resiliently. We admit to not being surfers, but appreciate the hoodie for our slightly less glamorous uses none-the-less. It would be a great thing to open under the tree.
Among the myriad of West-coast / East-coast differences is dress. We rarely saw suits in SF. Here we're surrounded by them, and the elegant black jackets swathing them on the streets, protecting against the biting wind. We love our men's Kenneth Cole Moleskin Coat (black, of course!) for joining the hurrying hoards. It's effortlessly dressy, while not too stuffy to wear with jeans. The moleskin fabric is beautiful to touch, though we must warn that our office cats also fancied it. It collected quite a bit of fur from the stolen nap, so pet keepers, be vigilant about hanging up your jacket unless you want an extra, uneven mohair layer. The desired features also include internal pockets and to external flap pockets at the waist. The front of the jacket comes down in a v, framed by a notched collar. The Moleskin is pretty light weight for a winter jacket, so we recommend getting it for the in-between months- it won't replace your big snow-storm winter coat, but it's great for weather in the 30s to 50s. The fit is on the broader side, so if you're a bean-pole this may not be the right jacket for you. The $249.50 price tag feels about right- the craftsmanship and style are impeccable and the jacket, as Tim Gunn would say, "looks expensive."
Kenneth Cole is also doing an interesting partnership this holiday season with MTV Staying Alive Foundationand amfAR. The "Come Together" campaign features a stylish new take on the class AIDS awareness ribbon. amFar, in case you're not familiar, is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy. Basically, all stuff that we would love to see get more funding and awareness. The ribbons are available to purchase all over the US (and many other parts of the world) at Kenneth Cole and from Kennethcole.com. 100% of the net profits will be donated to AWEARNESS The Kenneth Cole Foundation, where they'll be split between the MTV awareness campaign and amFAR. In case that isn't enough for you, various celebrities are on board promoting, including Ke$ha (Have you seen her music videos? We have to admit, we kind of love her bizarreness.), Cyndi Lauper (She grew up beyond "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" into a fantastic blues singer- who would've thought?), Sarah Jessica Parker and several others. Great stocking stuffer for the fashionable and socially aware person in your life!
