L.L.Bean Heritage Collection’s Christmas Cardigan

When it’s cold outside and you’re not prepared, you’ll quickly feel uncomfortable or even a downright Scrooge! This holiday season, a quality sweater that properly fits can be your most flattering ally. The perfect holiday sweater can add weight to a skinny physique or streamline and slim. Without the right outfit, how will you keep out singing carols, drinking egg nog? Thankfully, with so many different warm and cozy styles of sweaters available, it’s going to be a very good holiday season!

Many in the United States associate Maine brand L.L.Bean with quality knitwear and rugged winter wear. Founded in 1912, avid hunter Leon Leonwood (L.L.) set out to create a hunting line that could keep a hunter comfortable warm and dry around the clock. ”You cannot expect success hunting deer or moose if your feet are not properly dressed,” he boldly asserted, quickly establishing his brand as a trusted source for reliable outdoor gear.

And when preparing to battle your nephews in their yearly snowball fight, or the building of a army of snowmen, L.L.Bean is a wonderful place to hunt for your next holiday sweater. Their 1912 Heritage Sweater in Bird’s-Eye knit is crafted in Norway; a borrowed design long used by Norwegian fisherman who required the warmest and most durable sweaters for their sea-faring. This 100% wool cardigan is a sophisticated classic turned casual with the addition of a slightly fitted fit. It’s exceptionally warm, almost too warm if the temperatures are mild.

The beautiful red leather buttons are exquisite in their craftsmanship and offer the casual knitwear a bit of refinement that makes them suitable for a holiday lunch or dinner. We received a sample in size Medium that fit without making anyone look like the dreaded Stay-Puft Marshmallow man! The sizing did seem less generous than in past L.L.Bean seasons, pulling a bit tightly over the waist if buttoned from top to bottom. And we had hoped the wool would be a bit finer around the cuffed neck since the wiry hairs irritated delicate skin in that area.

Available in both navy and light grey heather, either color will be a mainstay in your wardrobe for years to come. At $169, this quality sweater is worth the investment- and it will keep you warm even away from the fireplace!
