Workouts Rarely Looked So Good: RYU Apparel
Finding the right workout apparel is a pretty key part to feeling great while you’re actually working out. If your apparel is too snug, it can restrict your movement and be uncomfortable on elbows and knees. Too loose, and you might wind up tripping over it, getting entangled in that extra fabric- or worse, chaffing underneath all that material!
The Vancouver-based brand RYU aims to create tailored, technical athletic apparel for both men and women. RYU boasts that they design athletic apparel without compromise, made first and foremost to facilitate human performance. Their apparel is built specifically for the urban athlete and engineered for fitness, training and performance. And because they care so much about fit, their website even boasts an entire page dedicated to size measurements for their apparel, including how to measure your body at home. In addition to that professional tailored feel, their clothing is designed with clean lines and modern styling so that you can easily take it from the gym to the weekend! The technical fabric in each piece has built in wicking properties- perfect for layering up pre-, during and post-training, year round!
RYU has a full line of fitness apparel for the holidays, but we’ve been trying out the RYU Midlayr Henley for women. On first wear, the flatlock seams impressed us and we wanted more of those invisible zippers located on the lower back pocket (perfect for keys or a phone). The addition of a locker loop in the neck means that you can hang this garment on a hook or machine when you begin to heat up. Articulated sleeves and four-way stretch fabric allow unrestricted movement, allowing us to hit the pilates studio and then spend a day exploring the city!. The trademark TecLayr fabric uses both recycled and spun polyester for moisture handling and some spandex to allow for comfort and freedom of movement.
We look forward to checking out the future of RYU as we head into January, and try to keep our resolutions next year. The brand clearly caters to urban and multi-discipline athletes, and at $87, this piece is competitively-priced and worth it.
